Here in America
Over here in the United States, traditional dances of Mexico have permeated into our culture as well. There are many classical Mexican dance groups rehearsing and performing in America, and many are impressive with their articulate beauty of movement.
TheMexican Dance Ensemble, based in Chicago, is a prime example of this cultural crossover. Founded in 2001, the MDE started out with 22 dancers, and has now grown to 100. The more advanced dancers perform all over the region, as well as in other states. They serve to promote and preserve Mexican folkloric dance to their local communities, maintaining joy in their performances and teaching about a fascinating group of people at the same time.
Mexican Americans can attest to the importance of dance and movement in their culture, however it’s best understood when seen for oneself. Check out your city’s local events to see if any Mexican cultural events are being held. If so, you’re sure to find some traditional dances of Mexico. And of course, if you ever find yourself traveling to this beautiful country, take some time to discover some great dancing in its native environment. You won’t be disappointed.

I COULD NOT BELIEVE IT,,,,, I just saw Mexican Dance Ensemble in Portugal!!!!!!
out of all places, let me tell you about MDE,, wow, wow, and more wow.
Im so proud to know that my favorite Mexican Dance Company from my home town chicago is touring Europe.
Congratulations guys.
My dance company was performing on a tour in Portugal, Spain and France and in our last two days of our tour we were off so we went to walk around the town in Portugal and guess what? we saw a festival where MDE was performing, the reason I know this is because I recognize two of the MDE dancers Erica and Rafael (hope I spelled their names right).
This is the "best Mexican Dance Troup in Illinois" I had the opportunity to see them perform 3 times in the Harris Theater with their own productions and around the chicago area, and also have seen other mexican dance groups that reside in chicago, and I will have to say that MDE is the most original, authentic, and truly represents what mexican traditions are about, I have been performing as a ballet dancer for the Chicago City ballet for 15 yrs. and I am so amused by the work that MDE has achieved being such a young group.
Their performances are magnificent, truly professionals on stage, and I love the name Mexican Dance Ensemble MDE fantastic and catchy.
The city of Chicago provides great artists in all areas rather your looking for Theater, Dance,Jazz, Ballet, Modern, Contemporary and Folk, but if you are looking for a great uplifting experience with a mexican flare, check out MDE.
My favority piece, well I actually have 3 I love.
Colima, Corridos Mexicanos, and the last production I saw at the Harris Theater last year in July was fenomenal, Huastecas wow...my favorite.
Congratulations to MDE Artistic Directors and Choreographers you truly showed your hard work, reasearch and talent, your shows have demostrated that you do know what you are doing and you are well informed. I know this because I know is a lot of hard work and lot of tiem vested in all the performances.
Dancers are so fantastic and energetic.
have to see this Dance Company they are truly representatives of mexican culture and most of all originality and traditions.
your fan

At Al Ghurair City, a family of eight brothers and sisters present the finest song and dance traditions from Peru and the region around the Andes mountain range. The country is well known for its folk music, tradition and the ensemble Yarina, bring their famous pan pipes to the city. Among the highlights of their performance are the original version of the famous Lambada song, and a stunning harvest dance performance that shows off their lavish techni-colour costumes.
Lead singer Roberto says it is the troupe’s first time in the Middle East. “We are delighted to be able to present our traditions to Dubai,” he said. Each show attracts a large crowd of spectators, many of whom return to catch the performance again and again – as no two performances are the same.
The troupe performs every day at 6.30pm and 8.30pm. Their last show is on Wednesday, January 28.
Also attracting large crowds are the Mexican Dance Ensemble, a group of eight performers bringing the finest of their country’s traditions to the UAE. The company performs at the Dubai Outlet Mall twice nightly at 6.30pm and 8.30pm until Wednesday, January 28.
The group is a not-for-profit organisation founded on the principles of equality and freedom of expression. “Our repertoire focuses on the preservation of our Mexican traditions enriched with our particular point of view and the way we feel the essence of this magnificent and varied heritage,” said Allan and Marilyn, who share the leadership of the group.
While there are common elements in both cultures, each portrays themes such as war, love and family which is played out through the use of music.
The two groups have had a great time discovering Dubai. “We have been to various souks and shopping malls, and are looking forward to going into the desert at the end of the week,” says 22-year-old Tupac who is a singer with Yarina. “We will be taking back memories of our wonderful time here – and lots of photographs to show our friends.”
